Cataract surgery is a relatively quick and safe operation, which is usually performed under local anaesthetic as a day-case procedure. The natural lens inside the eye is removed through micro-keyhole incisions that around 2mm in diameter.
After removing the cataract a new lens implant is inserted in to the capsule of the old lens, which holds it in place. The new lens has the ability to correct spectacle prescriptions, including short and long sightedness as well as astigmatism if required.
Having surgery with Mr Calladine in the private sector also means you have available to you the whole range of premium intraocular lens implants that are not routinely available on the NHS. These include multifocal or extended range vision lenses, that am to provide a whole range of clear vision simultaneously such as distance, middle and near vision for reading. We can also reduce astigmatism by using a TORIC anti-astigmatic lens.
